In light of Mardi Gras 2021 cancelled due to Covid-19, the Rare Ones of New Orleans are hosting a Mardi Gras “Throw Me Something Mister” Extravaganza! If you ever visited Mardi Gras in New Orleans, we shout at the parade float riders “Throw Me Something Mister” as a rallying call to catch various beads, trinkets, and doubloons. Since we cannot attend in person this year due to Covid-19, the Rare Ones of New Orleans wish to share a little of our enthusiasm for our wonderful City and Mardi Gras.
From February 1st. through February 16th, each contact with any of the “Rare Ones” of New Orleans will get one submission placed in Big John’s Fedora! There will be only one submission per Call Sign. On February 17th, we will announce the winners.
As with any Extravaganza there are prizes! The Rare Ones of New Orleans will be giving away a free gift to the five chosen names on February 17th. Prizes include one of the following:
- “Throw Me Something Mister” clay plaque from the Destrehan Plantation
- Care Package from New Orleans (Coffee, Beignets, Jambalaya, etc)
- Mardi-Gras King Cake
- Cajun Bottle Opener
- Other Special Gifts
In the spirit of Mardi Gras, come by and visit the Rare Ones of New Orleans Round Table at 7:30 p.m. CST on 7.275 Mhz and shout “Throw Me Something Mister”!
Any changes in the “Throw Me Something Mister” Extravaganza will be the sole authority and determination by N5DHB, aka – Big John “The Don of the Rare Ones”.

Way to go guys! I think this is truly awesome. I hate that I stumbled across this on Mardi Gras day. I have to go scavenge for the last king cake of the season tonight.
