Sometimes the Rare One’s of New Orleans are not so Rare! We celebrated our 2022 Christmas Social at Gattuso’s Restaurant in the Historic Town of Greta, Louisiana. We had many things to be thankful this year, but what made our annual event just a little bit more special was the appearance of two Rare One’s Associate Members – Paul KY4BF from Farragut, TN and Mike KD9GCN from Cedarburg, WI. Here are some of the pictures taken from the event. Just remember, if you want to acquire any Rare One’s swag or have a chance at our door prizes you need to get on the list for next year!

Jack, from Mills River, NC became an Associate Member of the Rare One’s of New Orleans. Jack earned the Nickname of “Jumping Jack” from Dale, KB5PMP – our pre-net coordinator. Not sure how Dale came up with Jack’s Nickname but let your imagination run with it! Perhaps Dale was channeling Mick Jagger at the time. Actually, Jack is a retired 82nd Airborne Division Veteran and loves jumping out of airplanes! By the way, check out Jack’s Station….and this nice sports car on QRZ!

Ever thought having some great Cajun Food on demand is just a dream? Well, John – W5PDW shared an interesting picture today with us. I believe Big John has already ordered one! This could be dangerous….

As many of y’all know, I am a river pilot on the Mississippi River. Recently, I saw Big John crossing the Mississippi River near Algiers Point. Big John says he doesn’t get out the house much but when he’s hungry all bets are off! Rumor has it, he was making his way to Jack Dempsey’s Restaurant. Moving at 2.7 kts, that’s the fastest I seen Big John move! In any case, this is a real screen shot of the AIS Targets on the Mississippi River.

Here’s Frank’s latest old hot rod project. He’s been diligently working on it, hence, we call him the Nutria Rat!

Here in Louisiana, Alligator is quite the delicacy found in many restaurants! Well, what if you can’t make a trip to Louisiana? Kris took the initiative and purchased a fresh alligator and shipped to his QTH for some gator bites! Here’s some pictures of Kris’s efforts. We always welcome our new, and quite frankly, existing Associate Members to send us station pictures of their shack. Kris sent us a picture of his station and what a beauty it is! Love the Framed Certificate. Kris lives in Marshall Texas and is close enough to Louisiana to be considered an adopted Cajun!

I’m always surprised by the pictures received from our Associate Member’s Stations. In terms of complexity, ingenuity, vintage and new equipment and just plain coolness, the Associate Members of the RO’s of New Orleans and their amateur radio stations are the best.
